Calculations

This year, BU has given me a combination of grants and loans that amounts to $50,200. $2,000 of that is a grant given to me for living in university housing and another $2,000 of that is work-study.

  • $50,200-4,000=$46,200

$46,200 goes into paying for tuition, housing, the dining plan, and other miscellaneous expenses. Tuition for the two semesters combined is $39,314 and miscellaneous charges will cost $882.

  • $46,200-39,314-882=$6,004

Living in an apartment for $600/month for the school year (9 months), will cost $5,400. The $600 includes utilities.

  • $6,004-5,400=$604

$604 seems very little for the cost of food for the entire school year, however, don’t forget that I will still have $2,000 to earn from work study as well as money the I hope to save up by working during the summer.

The most importantbeautiful part of these calculations is that I didn’t factor in money that my parents would have to pay. BECAUSE THEY WOULDN’T HAVE TO PAY A DAMN THING. Everything would be covered by my combination of grants and loans from the university.

Right now, all I need from my parents is to loan me $1,000. That’s $1,000 that I plan to pay back by the end of summer. During the summer, by working full time, I would be able to pay them back and still be able to save up some amount of money for myself.

Things are starting to look up.
